My newest obsession is stitch fix. After complimenting a co-worker of mine on several cute outfits, she shared with me that she got her clothes from a personal online styling service called stitch fix. She explained that you go on to their website, fill out a personal profile, and answer questions pertaining to your size, style, and budget. A stylist then looks over your information, shops for you, and sends 5 items to you in the mail. You pay $20 upfront as a styling fee and if you choose to keep at least one item, your styling fee is waived. You are not required to purchase anything; however, if you don't select at least one item, you will not get your $20 back.
You have the option of having items shipped to you every 2-3 weeks, once a month, every other month, or once every 3 months. You can change your frequency or cancel at any time. You can write personal notes to the stylist, request a stylist you have had in the past, and share a pinterest board to help guide the stylist to your particular taste in fashion. Also, if you give friends a referral code, you can get $25 off your next purchase. If anyone is interested you can use my link to get started by clicking on
STITCH FIX.
After you have tried on the clothes in the safety of your own home and during a time that is most convenient to you, you log in to your account, purchase the items that you want, and leave feedback for the stylist that will help towards your next fix. You have 3 business days from when you receive the items to send them back in a pre-paid envelope and to check items out on your account.
Stitch Fix #3
I get excited just seeing the box.
It gets even better and I haven't even seen the clothes yet.
Your stylist provides style cards to help you pair up your new items.
The stylist will give one example of how to dress the item up and one example of how to dress the item down. The stylist will also write you a special note explaining why they chose the specific items for you.
It is time to try on my newest fix.
Item #1: Papermoon Bastille Tulip Sleeve Blouse
Price: $38
Status: Kept
Please excuse the bad photos. I hope to get better at selfies as I blog future fixes. I loved this top. I usually wear more fitted items because looser ones tend to make me look bigger in the middle. This top hung perfectly and looked great with jeans and dress pants. My favorite parts of the shirt are the sleeves and the keyhole in the back. I just need to add a necklace so that I don't get washed out by the off-white color.
Item #2: Loveappella Cheyanne Printed Maxi Skirt
Price: $58
Status: Kept
I am short and have a difficult time finding maxi skirts that fit. My stylist, Christina Ann, wrote in my note, "As being short myself I know finding a maxi skirt is always hard, so I was happy that I got to find the Loveappella maxi skirt. You can even fold the top more if you'd like."
The material of the skirt is so soft and I felt very comfortable in the skirt. I usually have to be careful of stripe-like designs but this fish bone pattern is very flattering. This is a great skirt for me to wear while I am on summer break and I can kick off the flip flops and dress it up when I go back to work in August.
Item #3: Everly Maisie Striped Dress
Price: $58
Status: Returned
Hmmmm.... maybe I could pull this off if I was going to be a stylish inmate for Halloween, but this is definitely not my style. The dress was way too big and I felt like I was wearing a pillow. Also, there is a zipper in the back and the stripes on both sides of the zipper didn't line up right. I made a note to the stylist to avoid horizontal stripes in the future because they tend to make me look wide since I am so short. I also noted that empire waist dresses are the most flattering on me.
Item #4: Bash Irvington Keyhole Back Top
Price: $54
Status: Returned
I didn't like this top on me at all. It fit rather big and I felt really frumpy in it. I wasn't a fan of the material either. The keyhole in the back was the only thing that I liked.
Item #5: Level 99 Cindie Linen Short
Price: $78
Status: Returned
I really wanted to like these shorts. The material was so soft and comfortable, but I felt that the shorts were a size too big and I had a difficult time finding tops to go with the light blue linen. I thought any solid would look good, but black was the only decent thing I could find. Even if the color was different and the size was correct, I wouldn't have purchased the shorts because I wouldn't spend $78 on a pair of shorts... an item that can only be 4-5 months out of the year. I can tolerate spending more on pants since they can be worn all year long.
My goal is to hopefully find one item that I like per shipment so that I don't waste $20. My first fix I kept 2 items, my second fix I kept 3 items, and my third fix, I kept 2 items. Did I mention that if you choose to keep all 5 items, you get a 25% discount on your entire purchase? If you end up only liking 3 items, it sometimes ends up being cheaper keeping all 5. I also recently found out that there is a stitch fix board on Facebook for buying, selling, and trading your stitch fix products. If it is cheaper to keep all 5 items, but you know you aren't going to wear all of them, you can try trading or selling on that site.
So far I have really enjoyed my stitch fixes and am already counting down the days until my next fix. My favorite thing about having someone else shop for me is that I am forced to try on styles I wouldn't normally try. My wardrobe is now expanding and I finally feel like that not all my clothes look alike.
